good morning my name is Elizabeth Johnson and this is your Wednesday broadcast we discuss things that matter to you because what matters to you is what matters to us we know that in the midst of this pandemic you have had a lot of free time on your hands one thing you could do is stay today we have mrs. Cody who is going to explain to us what materials you need before you start your charcoal drawing I miss coffee drawing and painting teacher here at Mililani High School also teach a class photography today I'm here to talk about drawing with charcoal so here I have some different charcoal pads that you can purchase the there different in weight but there are made by the same company I really like Strathmore make a really nice paper if you don't find Strathmore that's okay but just make sure you're finding something that's is free if you don't your paper might turn yellow get all kinds of dots on it and start to deteriorate after a few years I have seen paper all over the place you can find it at big box stores and also some of our local stores and art stores around connect you need to get some different types of charcoal this is compressed charcoal I purchase it for the class so it comes in a package a real big package but it's a very dark compressed charcoal so you definitely want to have some of that and the other charcoal you need is Vine charcoal it's actually made from sticks really expensive it's a good piece of charcoal that you need and I'll with the two of them working together you can make a really nice charcoal drawing a lot of times you can you can find her charcoal all in one package call that you're going to need are some charcoal pencils these will be what you do the detail with and they do often come in different hardness 6B is a softer pencil a little darker and to be is little harder and a little lighter my preference is a 6p charcoal pencil the next thing you're going to need is some erasers this is a traditional pink pearl eraser it's a good to have those and then you have your kneaded eraser and then the last thing as far as our tools goal is the blending tools this is a chamois not a chamois butter Chamois real shammy and you can buy actually where you get your car detailing thing and cut a little piece off or maybe go in your garage and maybe I'll find us show me my personal preference is throw that out the window the best blending thing is your own finger not everyone's going to agree with that but I think so and then this is Art blending stick know that is not the right name for it a lot of people say it's a blending stick but this is really a tortillion sounds like tortilla but it has an N at the end so this is a turtle and it's good for like under the eye and things like that you should know blending your whole charcoal drawing with your turtle in with your finger yeah I'm kind of recommend something that you can look at so you can set up a little still life like this or something that's really convenient is you can get a picture of that maybe you took and you can print it and have that on this side right by your easel like this and you can work from that if you want to see the continuation what is the toriel join us next week for part two will Mexico they will explain the process of doing a charcoal drawing that's all for your money bulletin have a wonderful Wednesday Trojan
