MHSAF and John Kauinana Scholarships

SCHOLARSHIP BACKGROUND:
The MHS Athletic Foundation's mission is to support the Mililani High School Athletic Department.

This MHS Athletic Foundation Scholarship is awarded to a student-athlete who:

- Exemplifies and carries out the ‘Excellence, Pride and Tradition’ motto of a Mililani High School Student Athlete!

John Kauinana, affectionately known as ‘Big John,’ was Mililani High School’s first athletic director and varsity football coach. As a foundational figure in the school’s athletic history, he played a pivotal role in developing the Trojans' athletic program when the school opened in 1973. Through his strong connection to the community, he helped establish key athletic facilities, including the gymnasium and the baseball and softball fields. This scholarship honors his legacy and celebrates a student-athlete who embodies the core values and spirit of a Trojan, as aligned with our department’s mission and vision.
 
The Kauinana Scholarship is awarded to one male and one female student-athlete who:

- Embraces teamwork and a sense of ‘ohana, while demonstrating strong individual character
- Upholds the values of integrity, discipline, and pride
- Actively serves and gives back to the school, community, and state through outreach
- Honors our heritage by striving for championship-level achievement and preserving the traditions of Mililani Athletics
